Dixie Johnson

Dixie Ann Johnson, 81, passed away March 1, 2024 while at Kavanagh house.

She was born April 3, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa to her parents Richard and Ann Elliott. Dixie graduated from Marshalltown High School and was a homemaker for many years. After raising her children, she went to DMACC and was involved in the alumni board for DMACC. Dixie received a degree in Marketing and worked for Briggs and Gentiva Health Services until her retirement in 2005.

Dixie enjoyed traveling with her husband, Meredith. She was an avid gardener and reader. Dixie also enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes! She was the president of Early Wheels of Iowa Car Club, and was very involved in the swap meet in Greenfield, Iowa. Most of all Dixie loved her family and documenting family adventures in photographs.

She is survived by her children, Larry Botts, Lisa Sams, Greg (Tonia) Pierce, and Skylar Pierce; step-son, Doug (Linda VanBlaricum) Johnson; grandchildren, Levi (Katherine), Jacob, Garrett, Dawson, and Corbin; step granddaughter, Gaby (Trey) Gitzen; great grandchildren, Adalynn, Andrew, and Adam; siblings, Judy (Carl) Osgood and Paul (Mary) Elliott; and many other loving family and friends.

Dixie is preceded in death by her husbands, Meredith Johnson, Melvin Pierce Sr., and Richard Botts; two grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Brenda Botts; and her parents.

Family will greet friends Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Berean Assembly of God Church, 5299 E University Avenue in Pleasant Hill. Memorial service will take place the following day Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 Northeast 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in loving memory of Dixie Johnson.
