Diana Darland

Diana Darland, 55, passed away peacefully at her home on November 4, 2024. Burial will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University in Des Moines, IA and the visitation on Thursday, November 7 at from 4 to 7 p.m. with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.

Diana was born in Odzak, Bosnia on March 7, 1969 to Husein and Hasifa Ahmetovic. She graduated from high school and when the war struck (Yugoslavia) Bosnia in 1995, she and 15 other female relatives moved to a home near the Baltic Sea until the end of the war. Following the war, Diana and her then husband moved as refugees to Germany where their children, Haris and Irma were born. The family moved to the United States in 1999 and settled in Des Moines, Iowa.

Diana was a devoted mother and also worked in the banking industry. Her last position was at Financial Plus Credit Union as a Consumer Lender. She met her current husband, Todd Darland, in 2007 and spent many happy times together traveling with family and the Great 8. The couple married in 2019.

This feisty, loving, caring, big-hearted, loyal and beautiful woman will be greatly missed by her parents, Husein and Hasifa Ahmetovic; her husband, Todd Darland; her children, Haris (Meleena) Malkic and Irma Malkic; step-children, Jennifer Darland, Matt Darland, and Lindsey (Joseph) Lowery; her brother, Rajce (Samira) Ahmetovic; nieces, Sanela and Arnela Ahmetovic; and many extended family members and friends including the Lunch Club Gals and the Iowa State Tailgaters.
