David R. Schwenker
March 05, 1982 — July 10, 2024
David Robert Schwenker, 42, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Mercy Medical Hospital in Des Moines with his loving wife by his side.
David was born March 5, 1982 to Kenneth and Elizabeth (Calloway) Schwenker in Burlington, Iowa. He grew up in the Burlington area and then attended Iowa State University. After graduating with his BS in Computer Engineering, he moved to Des Moines where he began his career with IMT Insurance Company.
Dave enjoyed life! He played for many years in several adult hockey leagues in Central Iowa, both ice and roller hockey. He also was a familiar face at both the Des Moines Buccaneers and Iowa Wild games as a season ticket holder to both teams. He loved the outdoors and went on many camping and hiking trips. He summited mountains, and loved to snowboard. He was also well known and loved in the cycling community as he participated in three RAGBRAIs (Register’s Annual great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) and went on rides all over the country with his love and his friends. He also loved his cats with all his heart.
Dave was a devoted Iowa State Athletics fan, and as a longtime season ticket holder a familiar face to many at tailgates during football season. He even got married to Barb in the Jack Trice parking lot before a game.
Dave made friends everywhere that he went. His kindness, good humor, warmth, humility, and intelligence were infectious.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Graveside burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Furry Friends Refuge in loving memory of Dave.

Prayers for Dave's family and friends as they deal with the grief of losing him way too young. I've known Dave since he started working at IMT; we worked on several projects together. Dave was always a good friend and a good person, and he'll be missed by a lot of people.
May you rest in peace, Dave.

I don't...I don't even know right now. Barb, we're all here for ya. I can't imagine what you're going through at the moment. Dave was beloved by everyone. Met him 14 years ago and he's been on of my favorite people. Like ever. A beaut, as they would say in the hockey world. Just such a fantastic guy to be around. He's going to be missed by a lot of people.

Barb.....words can't say how I feel. Dave was such a special guy and we had lots of good times over the years. Hopefully the memories will heal some of the pain and sorrow and a smile will replace the tears over time. Love you and if you need something, don't hesitate to call.

My deepest heartfelt condolences for your loss. If there is anything at all that I, or any of his family can do to help out, please contact me by this email! 💔
