David M. Croy, 83, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA.

David was born October 16, 1940 to Martin and Ruby Croy near Essex, IA. He attended and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1959. After graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha for finance and insurance management. He then joined the United States Army for four years.

On August 1, 1965, David entered into marriage with Barbara J Maxwell of Clarinda, IA and moved to Topeka, KS where David completed his tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force. The couple made their home later in Shenandoah where David eventually accepted a position with AVCO Finance. David and Barbara then settled on a farm in Waverly.

The next move was to Muscatine, IA where David was with Central State Bank. David and Barbara eventually settled in Urbandale, IA where they resided for over 30 years. David went to work for Wells Fargo and retired from the Home Equity Division in 2006. David enjoyed a fulfilling career, where his dedication and work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike. He also served our country and remembers his time fondly. Known for his big heart, David was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, whether through community service or simply being a supportive friend.

On May 18, 2020, David married Marisa Ligia Vilches Herrera. They moved to Waukee, IA, where they spent the last four years. They enjoyed vacationing in Florida during the winter months. David enjoyed going to coffee at McDonald’s with his Coffee Group every morning. He also liked watching all the Iowa Hawkeye sporting events.

David had a unique gift for keeping in touch with friends, maintaining life long connections that were a testament to his warmth and loyalty. His infectious gentle spirit, and generous nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

David is survived by his wife, Marisa Ligia Croy; son, Chris (Tari) Croy; granddaughters, Camryn and Alexis; sisters-in-law, Janet and Marlyn Croy; his nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Anthonella Cowie, Madonna Kirchner, William Kirchner and Seth Cowie; and other family members who will miss him dearly. His legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Croy; his parents, Martin Croy and Ruby Crane; his brothers, Michael and Roger Croy; his sister, Gloria; and his son, John Croy.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
