Dr. David T. Berg
January 02, 1952 — March 24, 2024
Dr. David T. Berg, 72, passed away on March 24, 2024. A visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
David was born January 2, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa to Geraldine (Bogen) and Rueben Berg. He graduated from Valley High School, Drake University and The College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines in 1981. David spent the majority of his career serving patients in Occupational Medicine. He continued to be devoted to his work; most recently at Unity Point Occupational Medicine where he has practiced for the past several years and The Veterans Administration Medical Center. While at the VA, David worked extensively to implement improvements to the Pain Management Clinic which he was passionate about. David was a reoccurring guest lecturer at Des Moines University and served as a Preceptor for students during clinical rotations, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
In his free time, David enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa State Cyclones. In the 1980-90’s, David spent many years volunteering as the team physician for the Des Moines Buccaneers Hockey team. He had a fondness for cats and enjoyed spending time with his grand fur baby, Bruno. He had a love for Christmas as was evident by the Christmas decorations that stayed up all year long! David’s ideal spot was spending time at Lake Okoboji. David spent many years as a child vacationing there and many more as an adult enjoying the lake life; whether it be cruising the lake in his boat, fishing off the dock or just enjoying the beautiful view. Okoboji holds many special memories for our family of time well spent together.
David was kind, witty, generous, giving, had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone. He had a special and significant appreciation for his work family at Unity Point which he spoke of with such kindness and love. He was a wonderful, supportive father and always had a huge smile when sharing stories about his children with others.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Brian (Natalie) Berg and Jenna (Jonah) Berg; his brother, Dan (Jodi) Berg; his sister, Kim (Rick) Stageman; nieces and nephews; and the mothers of his children, Mary Andros and Cindy Andreini.
David was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial may be directed to the Des Moines University Scholarship Fund in honor of David. Condolences of sympathy may be expressed to the family at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

There just aren't enough adjectives to describe how wonderful this man was and the impact he had on all of us who worked with him. He was a wonderful doctor and a genuine, sincere, funny and caring human being. I considered him a friend and co-worker and am so grateful that I had the opportunity to know him. He is gone too soon but will be remembered with love and respect by all who knew him forever. He leaves a void that can never be filled. Rest in peace Dr. Berg. My thoughts and prayers are with Brian, Jenna and the rest of the family.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. He was a great example of a Dr that liked the people he served and took care of- treating as a person instead of a patient. He was always positive and caring. He will be missed.

Words can not express the void felt by the loss of such a caring, kind, gentle, giving, and loving physician and man. I'm blessed to have known and worked beside Dr. Berg. Lots of stories and memories will be cherished. No Minnesota Vikings game, trips to Twin Cities Grill, or Coney Island Will be the same. His love for his family and all the stories of their accomplishments will be remembered along with the countless photos of Bruno and all his mischievousness. Prayers and condolences go out to his family and everyone touched by this immense loss.

Dr. Berg will be missed by so many of us truck drivers that he has served for years. He was the most down to earth and kindest Dr. I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. Never any judgments and treated everyone of us as equals. He will be dearly missed.

Dr. Berg was awesome to work with at UnityPoint. He always was willing to help out, take a phone call, offer advice. He was gentle, kind, and took great care of patients and people. He always led every conversation with asking about my family and husband. He really cared about others and showed it. He loved his staff and work, and he will be greatly missed. I will pray for his family and staff for healing and comfort during this time of grieving, and I wish I was able to attend his visitation to pay my respects. He was a great man.

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this. I worked closely with David at the VA. Initially he was a key member of the Occupational and Environmental Health team. We spent hours going over both employee and veteran cases and his advice was always spot on. After a while, he was instrumental in establishing the pain management clinic for the veterans we served.
He always had a sparkle in his eyes when we would talk about our families. His love for his children was evident. He will be missed.
Keeping him and his family in prayers and thoughts.

I had the pleasure working with Dr. Berg when I staffed at the Ankney Clinic. Dr. Berg has always, and I mean always welcomed me as if I worked there on a full-time basis. I will always remember when asked what he was having for lunch, he would tell me what Marie Callender made him and we would laugh. He will be truly missed and I'm thankful to have known him. God's blessing for comfort to his family and those that loved him.

I am in total denial that we have lost such a wonderful "Doctor". No one can ever replace him. He was a man with a heart bigger than Texas and would do anything for anyone. I had the greatest pleasure of working with him the past 11 years. He always had a smile, always said good morning and "see ya" at the end of the day. We all had some great laughs that will forever be remembered. I could go on and on, there are so many memories that will forever be in my heart. He was so loved!
My heart goes out to his family. He was so very proud of his kids, his face would get a big smile when he talked about them.
My very deepest sympathy.
