Daniel "Dan" Thornton
April 19, 1956 — August 30, 2023
Daniel Edward Thornton, 67 passed away on Wednesday, August 30th at home.
Dan was born on April 19, 1956 to Anne (Irwin) and Jerry Thornton in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dan attended University of Iowa where he received his BA and MBA. He spent most of his business career at Principal Financial Group - Commercial Real Estate as a Managing Director. Dan retired in May of 2020.
On November 16, 1991 Dan married Regina Pender. Both Dan and Gina graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1974. However, they didn’t know each other until they met in their early 30’s.
Dan enjoyed traveling with his family to Colorado each summer, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and perfecting his golf game at the Wakonda driving range.
He was preceded in death by his parents Anne and Jerry Thornton and his sister-in-law Laura Thornton.
Dan is survived by his wife Regina and two sons, Andrew Dahm and Jeffrey Thornton, sisters Libby (Jeff) Stanton, Margie (Mike) Marble, Katie (Mark Currie) Bartlett, brothers Larry (Teresa), Chris (Beth), Pat (Katy), Mike, along with many nieces and nephews.
Services for Dan will be held on September 6, 2023 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. A private burial service at Glendale Cemetery will be held at a later time.

I went to grade school and high school with Dan. He was a great guy with a kind soul. I was hoping to catch up with Dan next year at our class reunion. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Heaven has gained an angel!

In the many many years I worked at Wakonda I came to know generations of both the Thornton and Stanton families ❤ Dan was such a kind man and we had many conversations about everything! The friendship I've had with both families is something I will always cherish ❤
