Daniel Leaming

Daniel Leaming, 81, passed away at UnityPoint Health - Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Daniel was born September 30, 1944, in Dawson, Iowa to Daniel and Irma (Lansing) Leaming. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967. Daniel moved to Des Moines in 1969 and married Andrea “Andy” Vasquez on February 26, 1972. He retired in 2010, from Eagle Iron Works where he worked as a machinist for many years. Daniel was a member of the American Legion Hispanic Post #731. He enjoyed singing karaoke and was an avid reader. Daniel especially enjoyed anything written by Louis L’Amour. He loved time spent with family and friends.
Daniel is survived by his sons, Clayton (Sonja) Leaming and Shane (Jessica) Leaming; granddaughters, Mikayla Ramsey and Sadie Leaming; great-granddaughter, Brinley Ramsey; brother, Richard (Linda) Leaming; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Andy; siblings, Judy Lansing, Mildred Phipps, Bobby Leaming and Dale Leaming; and his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hispanic Post #731, 1511 S. Union Street in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a Veteran’s Association of the donor’s choice in loving memory of Daniel.
