Service Details

Deloris Wacht passed away on March 4, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She was 73 years old.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4114 Allison Avenue, Des Moines.

Deloris was born April 1, 1951, to Paul and Geraldine Brubaker. She was raised in Des Moines, and lived in Beaverdale her entire life. She graduated from Hoover High School in 1969 as part of the first graduating class from that school. She went to work right away for Telco Credit Union. She married Lester Wacht on July 15, 1972. She stayed at home after having her two daughters Kelly and Keri, always volunteering at school and helping them with homework. After they were raised she worked at Michael’s Craft Store and Ace Hardware. She loved to make and create, always working on crocheting, cross stitch and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, making both of her daughter’s prom dresses, and all of the bridesmaid dresses for Kelly’s wedding. She was a good friend to many and an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Deloris stopped working in 2007 to stay home and provide care daily for her three grandchildren, Ava, Samuel and Audrey. Her love for them was boundless and they had a special bond. She never stopped caring for them in every way, even up until the time she passed she was worried about where they were and if they were healthy and safe. Her sacrifice allowed her daughters to work without worry, knowing their children were in the best possible hands.

Deloris is survived by her daughters, Kelly Bronsink and Keri Wacht and grandchildren, Ava Wright, Samuel Bronsink and Audrey Bronsink. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lester Wacht, her parents, Paul and Geraldine Brubaker, and her brother, Paul “Kenny” Brubaker, Jr.

The family would like to thank all who helped care for her - Mission Cancer and Dr. Heddinger, all the staff on Powell 3 at Unity Point Hospital, and especially the staff at Every Step Hospice Kavanagh House and the pastoral staff at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Their kindness helped to make a difficult time much easier.

Memorials can be made to Every Step Hospice and the Animal Rescue League.
