David Stenger

David “Dave” Stenger, age 56, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2024, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home.

Dave was born June 17, 1968, in Des Moines, Iowa to Orion and Donna Stenger. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Dave worked in sanitation for over 30 years for companies including Ankeny Sanitation, Artistic, and Waste Management. Dave made friends easily and especially loved children, making special connections with the kids along his route. He would even provide birthday and Christmas cards to many of the kids in his neighborhoods that he became friends with.

Dave was an avid Hawkeye and Steelers fan. He cherished the memory of the Steeler’s game he was able to attend with his oldest son. He enjoyed reading and playing pool. Dave liked being outside and landscaping; even during his cancer treatment you could still find him outside pulling weeds. His spirit remained strong until the end. He meant so much to so many people and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his fiancé, Deanna Fritz; children, Steven Stenger, Brad Stenger, Alex Stenger, Angie (Brian) Tjelmeland, and Robert Burns; grandchildren, Ava Tjelmeland and Deklan Stenger; siblings, Patty (Guy) Gilreath, Rick Stenger, and James Stenger; niece, Shena Thompson; and many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Orion and Donna Stenger; and his brother, Victor Stenger.

There will be a celebration of life on Friday, December 27, 2024, at West Des Moines Open Bible Church, 1100 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines. Family will greet guests beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. If sending flowers, please have them delivered directly to the church the day of the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a cancer foundation of the donors’ choice.
