Dixie L. Nicholson
November 28, 1934 — December 30, 2024
Dixie Lea Nicholson, age 90, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024. Dixie was born November 28, 1934, in Rifle, Colorado, the daughter of Fred and Gladys Stevens. She grew up in a family of two sisters and three brothers.
Dixie was raised in Sioux City, Iowa and attended East High School. She met Jerry Nicholson of Des Moines and they were married July 2, 1953, at East Monmouth, New Jersey, where Jerry was stationed in the Army.
Dixie was mother to five children. She is survived by Steven, Christopher, and Elizabeth, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Jerry and Mark.
Dixie worked at Delavan Corporation in West Des Moines for 22 years as a production worker until she retired in September 2000. She enjoyed spending time with her family, keeping her home, reading history and biographies, and just enjoying God’s beautiful creation.
Testimony:
“I believed in God and Jesus as I grew up, but I never really understood the plan of salvation until I met my husband and his family. I accepted Christ at a Billy Graham rally in New Jersey in 1953. Through the years I let the Lord down many times in my life, but the Holy Spirit kept drawing me closer, and I know I am saved because the Holy Spirit bears witness with my spirit. Praise God, He is my Savior.”
She was a member of First Federated Church.
Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Contributions may be directed to Mission Church (formerly First Federated Church), 12001 Ridgemont Drive, Urbandale, IA 50323.

Sorry for your loss.
I just saw the obituary today. When Dixie worked at Delavan she was friends with my sister Nancy Taylor. Remember Nancy talking a lot about Dixie. It was all good.
I also worked at Delavan until the layoff in 1991.
Again, sorry for your loss.

Dear Family, the Senior Saints ministry at The Mission Church had the blessing of knowing Dixie. Such a delightful person and Jesus always in her conversations. Heaven is her home which she joyfully waited for. Most Sincerely, Judy Lundy

Dixie was such a fun lady to talk to! She loved talking about what God had done in her life. We both loved to sing Christmas music & hymns to music from my phone. She loved chocolate ice cream & sugar cookies. Dixie & I both listened & learned so much from Dr.Jeremiah's teachings on the radio.
To Dixie's kids-she was so proud of you & loved talking about you.

Dixie was such a nice person. I got to know her at a Bible study class at First Federated and we always enjoyed seeing each other at church. My sympathies to the family.
