Doreen L. Benfer

Doreen “Dody” Louise Benfer, age 60, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.

Dody was born June 15, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa to Curtis and Elizabeth (Nalevanko) Thompson. She is survived by her children, Michael (Nicole) Thompson, Margaret (Joe) Robinson, and Aaron (Andrea) Woodard; grandchildren, Michael, Layla, Zoey, Lucy, Quin, Jackie, and Stacy; siblings, Christine (Larry) Sanxter, Curtis (Kathy) Thompson, Karolyn (Carlos) Santos, and Kathy (Darryl) Nemer; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many special friends.

Dody was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Elizabeth Thompson; infant son, Daniel Woodard; brother, Michael Thompson; and her long-time partner, Steve Knapp.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

I worked with Dody in the kitchen at ChildServe when I was a teenager. I have so many fun memories with her. My thoughts are with all of you at this time.
