Service Details

Curtis J. Walters, 40, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on December 10, 1983 to Michael Lee and Robin Kay (Dearchs) Walters in Clarion, Iowa, Curtis spent his childhood years in Goldfield, Iowa, where he and his friends spent countless hours on their bikes – popping wheelies, finding endless ways to be air-born, and inevitably knocking out his front teeth more than once.

His love for all things with wheels was sparked early and led him to a lifetime of adventure on go-carts, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, dirt bikes and a long list of cool cars. Curtis was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles in his later years.

He passed these passions on to his sons, Keagan and Hunter Walters. His best days were whenever he could spend time in the garage with his boys, teaching them how to drift, jump, and land with ease.

Curtis was fun-loving and also enjoyed being outdoors. He especially fell in love with camping. He will be remembered for his kind heart – always willing to lend a hand to those struggling, to protect those he loved with fierce loyalty, and to make people laugh with his sense of humor.

While we are saddened that his time with us was far too short, we do not mourn as those without hope. We know we will see him again and that he is living his best life in Heaven, likely in an outdoor space made for riding fast!

He is survived by his sons, Keagan and Hunter Walters; mother, Robin Svadbik; father, Michael (Angie) Walters; sister, Sheila (Justin) Long and their children, Will and Harper Long; sister, Jennifer (James) Tew and their children, Brady and Alexander Tew, Brennan (fiancé Mikaela Gonser) Tew and their daughter, Maggie; maternal grandmother, Sharon Heeren; step-brother, George MacDonald; mother of his children, Amber Wolff; girlfriend, Nicki Welcher; aunts, Jolene (John) Lauer and Christine (Rick) Enos; uncles, Marty Walters, Steve (Betty) Walters, and Dave (Jody) Walters; his cat, Simba; and a host of other beloved family and friends.

Curtis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Maynard Dearchs, Harold Heeren, William Walters, Margaret and Don Mrazek; and his uncle, Steven Dearchs.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa, with a time of sharing at 4:30 p.m. Burial at Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa.
