Craig Mason, 73, passed away February 4, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist West Hospital.
Craig was born July 6, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard and Angeline (Christenson) Mason. He grew up on Des Moines Southside. Craig was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Technology and worked in IT for over 40 years. Craig loved music and played the accordion, French horn and bass guitar. He enjoyed watching Westerns and Sci-Fi, especially StarTrek. Craig liked staying active, going to the gym and playing slow pitch softball for several years. He was a member of the Sons & Daughters of Pearl Harbor and enjoyed going to Pearl Harbor Day activities. One of his greatest joys in life was riding his Harley. First and foremost, Craig was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with those he loved.
Craig is survived by his loving wife, Joy; daughter, Jen (Andrew) Penisten-Clark; son, Mike Mason; grandchildren, Amelia Penisten, Gabriella Penisten, Braydin Clark and Zoey Clark; sister, Terry (Bill) Shaver; cousin, Jim Mason; mother-in-law, Joy Duffy; brothers-in-law, Mike (Diana) Duffy and Mark (Shannon) Duffy; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Angie Mason; infant daughter, Melissa Mason; son-in-law, Scott Penisten; and his father-in-law, Mike Duffy.
The family will greet friends on Monday, February 9, 2026 from 5:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 10th at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
