Clifford Wayne Rushton, age 90, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on October 9, 2023 at Taylor House Hospice. He was the son of Vinton Rushton and Lola Smith Walker. He attended Centerville Schools, graduating with the Class of 1951. Clifford attended Centerville Junior College for 2 years, then served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and graduated from Drake University in 1960.

Clifford worked for the Des Moines Fire Dept. for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He also was a substitute in the Des Moines Public Schools for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet; daughter, Sarah of Davenport, Iowa; son, Mark, his wife, Ann, and 2 granddaughters, Isabel and Zoe of West Des Moines; and daughter, Paula of San Diego, California; brothers, Donald and David Rushton; and his sister, Lora Boran.

His body has been cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Des Moines.

He was a kind soul and will be missed.
