My condolences to all of Charlotte's family. She was a treasured colleague at the Department of Education, spearheading so many systemic changes in school nursing programs. I especially loved her fierce advocacy for children's health care needs and the system of support it takes for them to obtain a good education. I remember how as an AEA early childhood consultant, I first worked with a family of an incoming kindergarten student. We pulled together a team to ensure the school was prepared for a child with a pace maker (avoid microwaves, emergency preparedness, staff training, accommodations, bus driver training, etc.). Later I learned Charlotte had worked to develop every school's the capacity to develop and implement 504 plans for children with special health care needs. What an impact!
