Charles Vance Neagle, 95, passed away on April 23, 2025, at Eden Acres in Perry, Iowa.

Charles was born on September 25, 1929, to Jasper and Elizabeth (Crawford) Neagle on a farm near Livonia, Missouri.

Charles began teaching school at the age of 17 after taking classes at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, now Truman State University. He continued his education every summer from 1946 until 1964 when he graduated with a Master of Education. Charles taught school for 43 years. He and his family moved to Berwick, Iowa in 1955 where he taught third grade through 5th grade at Berwick School, a part of the Saydel School District. He taught at several Saydel elementary and middle schools until his retirement in 1991.

Charles was a St Louis Cardinals fan and rarely missed listening to a radio broadcast or televised game. He enjoyed reading and especially enjoyed western novels. Charles took meticulous care of his home and lawn. He served as Treasurer for Berwick Church for many years.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Fred) McBride; his son-in-law, John (Vicki) Baker; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; his parents, Jasper and Elizabeth; his daughter, Vicki Baker; and his son, Stephen Neagle.

Family will be greeting friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Garden; 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Charles will be laid to rest at Berwick Cemetery; NE 62nd Avenue, Delaware Township. Family would like to invite guests to join them following the burial for a luncheon at Berwick Congregational Church; 5673 Berwick Drive, Berwick.

In lieu of flowers, family would like memorial contributions directed to the Berwick Congregational Church.
