Carrie Ann Smith

Carrie Ann Smith, 65, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2023 at her home.

She was born on July 20, 1958, in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 1976. She earned her associate's degree from Western Iowa Tech in Computer Science. She was an avid problem solver and worked for Wells Fargo for the past 24 years.

She enjoyed going on drives, especially to view fall foliage. She also enjoyed shopping at flea markets, second-hand stores, and antique stores. She liked lilacs, growing tomatoes, especially cherry tomatoes, bologna, hotdogs, and watching lightning storms. She also liked going barefoot, helping others, and old houses. She was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horses Association (AQHA). She loved watching her grandchildren’s activities, her mom’s potato salad, and Spanish rice. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, horses, and dogs, especially poodles or those in need.

Carrie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dorin Smith; daughters, Shanen (Beau) Ebersole and Dorisa (Michael) Simpson; mother, Carol Lohrman; grandchildren, Addie Ebersole, Jolene Ebersole, Wyatt Ebersole, Ashton Simpson, and Lilly Simpson; sisters, Peggie (Bob) Lovewell and Merrie Lohrman-Serr; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gaylon Lohrman; brother, Richard Spray, Jr.; sister, Jerrie Griggs; and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Carrie.
