Cheryl Sedars

October 28, 1947 — December 19, 2023

Service Details

Cheryl Rae Sedars, age 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. She was born October 28, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa to Donald and Shirley (Hamm) Cockerham.

Sherry, more than anything, loved spending time with her family. In her earlier days, Sherry enjoyed going out, having some beer, and dancing. Many times throughout the summer she would entertain family and friends for backyard parties. Every few years, everyone would get together at Pioneer Park for one of our dad’s famous hog roasts, with live music, food, and a lot of fun! She enjoyed going to play bingo. You could often find her playing solitaire, working a crossword, playing spades or cribbage. Her favorite was poker, probably because she was pretty good at it… and she didn’t mind winning all your money.

Sherry was a beautiful woman, who was so full of life. She loved life, her family, and her friends. Most of all, she was loved in return, and she will be missed by so many.

Sherry wasn’t perfect, but in the eyes and hearts of her children and grandchildren, she was more than perfect! She was their world, and they were hers.

She is survived by her brother Donny Cockerham, sister Joann Anderson, daughter Yvonne (Donny) VanSickle, son Troy Belger (Danielle), 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Shirley Cockerham, grandmother Lillian Hamm, baby sister Dixie, daughters Tammy and Cindy, brother Richard Cockerham, grandson Bobbylee and great-grandson Nathan Michael.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a luncheon in her memory following the service at Linda Marshall (Cockerham)’s, 3330 East 25th Street, Des Moines. Please park in the church parking lot.
