Cheryl "Sherry" W. Pentico

Cheryl “Sherry” Wilma Pentico, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Sherry was born March 14, 1946, in Warren, Ohio to Robert and Elva (Young) Piltz. She moved to the Des Moines area in 1967. After high school, Sherry served in the United States Navy. In life, she worked as a computer programmer, lastly for Guide One prior to retirement. During her retirement, Sherry and her husband, Ed shared an interest in classic cars, particularly Buick Rivieras. Sherry and Ed made friends around the world at the Annual International Riviera Meets, hosted by the Riviera Owners Association, where Sherry and Ed served as office managers for many years. Sherry was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Riviera Owners Association, and the Buick Club of America. She took part in events with the American Legion, DAV, and Fleet Reserve Association. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, canning, and woodworking.
She is survived by her son, Robert “Bob” (Peggy) Pentico; grandchildren, Rachel (Michael) Weatherly, Tricia Jones, Bobbi Jo (Steven) Buckley, and Phillip Pentico; great-grandchildren, Austin, Kyle, Ryan, Jonathan, Logan, Emmett, and Theo; great-great-granddaughter, Harper; sisters, Sue and Sharon; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Sherry was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edward Pentico; parents, Robert and Elva Piltz; siblings, Ron, Les, Patty, and Kathy; and her dogs, Butkus and The Little Duke of Sleepy Hollow.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, IA. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Canfield Cemetery after the funeral.
