Carol A. Monahan

Carol A. Monahan, age 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Karen Acres in Urbandale.

Carol was born January 6, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa to William B. Harban and Betty J. Madison. She grew up in Des Moines. Carol worked for Wellmark for several years, retiring from there after fulfilling many different positions.

Carol and her husband, Larry were very social and enjoyed cruising in their Olds 442, visiting their regular hangouts, spending time at each place with their friends, before moving on to the next. They loved time at Stormy’s and many of their other regular stops. They frequented car shows at Porky’s with their 442, as well as many other places. That was their happy place. Carol enjoyed going boating, especially on Lake Rathbun, camping, and listening to music.

She is survived by her daughters, Paula (Curt) Reed and Angie (Michael “Joey”) Gardner; grandchildren, Austin (Kayelee) Shepherd, Cody (Hannah) Reed, Taylor (Natalie) Miller, Jena Reed, Koby Gardner, Kaeden Osborn, and Mikey Gardner; great-grandchildren, Macy, Callen, Spencer, Caysee, and Cooper; sister, Linda (David) Morse; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, William B. Harban and Betty J. Madison; and her husband, James “Larry” Monahan.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with a reception to follow.
