Cindy Chanh Khattiya

Cindy Chanh Khattiya, 51, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa. Born October 9, 1972, in Xieng Hon, Laos to Xoune Sytaphong (father) and Kham Inthaboun (mother). She immigrated to the United States in 1989 with her family. She met and later married her husband, Bountham in 1994. They first settled in Massachusetts before moving to Minnesota where her son, Benjamin was born in 1997. Cindy and her husband later moved to Iowa and settled. They welcomed their daughter, Adrienne in 1998.
Cindy enjoyed spending her free time with her family and friends (especially her grandson Elliott), cooking, and tending to her beloved garden. Cindy was an active member of the Tai Lue community often taking part in organized events contributing her delicious foods and co-hosting skills. She was always the most welcoming person and the life of the party. Cindy also worked for Amcor for 20+ years as a machine operator where she was loved for her humor and outgoing personality.
She is survived by her husband, Bountham Khattiya; children, Benjamin (Gaby) Khattiya and Adrienne (James) Khattiya; grandson, Elliott Rowe; siblings, Som (Choy) Inthaboune, Bounyung Khonla, Khathon Manody, and Linda Cavanh; siblings in law, Chomseang (TahDevan) Chaialee and Somkith (Phil) Ingram- Khattiya; six nieces, five nephews, three great nieces, and six great nephews. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Xoun Sytapong and Kham Inthaboun; brothers, Savandy Inthaboun and Nath Inthaboun; and brother in law, Bounthan Khattiya.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with cremation to follow.
