Charlotte Kauer

Charlotte Kauer, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Glen Oaks Memory Care in Urbandale, Iowa.

Charlotte was born August 21, 1931, in Lincoln, Nebraska to John W. and Julia A. (Ringler) Johnson. She met her future husband, Vern Kauer, at a roller rink in Lincoln, and the rest, as they say, is history. They were blessed with two sons, Steven and James.

Charlotte was a devoted military wife, ready to move anywhere around the world when Vern was sent somewhere new. Their family lived all over the world, and in many states in the U. S. When they settled down and had their final family home built, Charlotte took a major role in adding special details to their home, like hand staining all of the wood in the house.

Charlotte loved to cook and she would always try to learn or recreate the food of the culture in which they found themselves living every time they moved someplace new. She owned just about every kitchen appliance invented. She was also an avid crafter, talented at creating stained glass pieces, quilting, and sewing. She even sewed her own clothes in high school, and would go on to sew clothing for many family members. She was a lover of antiques as well.

She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, LaVern Kauer; son, Steven (Terri) Kauer; grandchildren, Christopher and Rachel; beloved great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her son, James Kauer; parents, John and Julia Johnson; and her siblings, Paul, Wanda, and Joyce.

According to Charlotte’s wishes, cremation will occur and there will be no formal services held at this time.
