Service Details

Carol Ann (Garland) Drummond, was born on October 8, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Jerry Edward Garland and Virginia Mae (Rose) Garland.

She graduated from East High School in Des Moines and worked for many years at Wells Fargo Mortgage.

Carol had a true zest for life. She enjoyed dancing (and was always ready to join a line dance), camping, hiking, swimming, boating and fishing, and she loved all animals. She would greet every dog she met with love and affection.

She was always ready to join in the fun and learn new skills. Throughout the years, she enjoyed roller skating and ice skating, and riding bicycles, horses, four-wheelers, motorcycles and snowmobiles.

She loved to share stories of her fun adventures and especially her trips to South Dakota with her parents and other family members. They would spend time visiting her grandparents and camping and fishing at North Wheeler Recreation Area.

She loved being outdoors and getting back to nature. She spent many happy days in the Des Moines area camping, hiking, fishing and boating at Saylorville Lake and Jester Park.

Sadly, Carol died on September 27, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, after a short battle with a rare disease known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, her uncle, and four of her beloved dogs who had died over the years (Zeus, Venus, Apollo and Frankie).

She is survived by her mother Virginia Garland, her husband of 20 years (Steve Drummond), two brothers and two sisters, and Ben, her beloved dog of 14 years who was always by her side, and many other friends and family.

Carol was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Jester Park, Shelter #6.

Carol will be missed and remembered by all who loved her.
