Brian Daniel Braak
October 13, 1959 — April 28, 2024
Brian Braak, 64, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by his loving family.
Brian was born to Eileen and Albert “Skip” Braak in Des Moines, Iowa.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends above all else. He was an avid live music fan, an average golfer, the luckiest cribbage player you’d ever meet, and an Eagle Scout. He had an encyclopedic knowledge for names and faces and was a best friend to everyone he met. He was always finding ways to bend the rules, but he could easily charm his way out of trouble. He married his high school sweetheart, Dodie, and was fiercely proud of his family. He had a way of finding humor in every situation. He loved loudly.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Dodie; his children, Erin (Matt) Kessler and Dan (Kelsey) Braak; grandchildren, Wyatt, Ryan, and Reid Kessler; siblings, Kelly (Jack) Judd, Steve (Vicki) Braak, Charles (Kelly) Braak, Maureen (Marlon) Reynosa-Braak; mother-in-law, Doris; brother-in-law, Bud (Joanne); and Sheltie puppy, Ernie.
Brian was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Friday, May 10th from 5 to 7pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11 also at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Brian’s name.

I first got to know Brian in high school, and it was apparent from the start that he was a gifted storyteller and a ton of fun to be around--attributes I'm sure served him well in his sales career. I think I still have the receipt for my first boombox, which Brian sold me at Rex Audio. I carry fond memories of my times with Brian, and offer sincere condolences to his family.
