B. Michael (Mike) Shanks passed from this life to Heaven, Tuesday May 12, 2026.

He was a beloved son, brother and uncle.

Mike spent his time working at Andersen Windows and Doors for forty-one years and that job served him well. He made many friends during his time at Andersen.

In previous years, he loved spending time hunting and caring for his dogs as well as taking day trips to surrounding historical places in Iowa.

If you knew him well, he had a dry sense of humor and was extremely funny when he had the opportunity. He loved bantering back and forth with nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his parents, Billie D. And Carol A. Shanks, sisters, Teresa (Ralph) Johnston, Janis (Don) Barr and Connie (David) Cortner. He is also survived by nephews, Scott and Jason Johnston, David Barr and Andrew Alexander and his nieces, Mindy Stewart and Andrea Shandri.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Leo and Vina Shanks, Charles and Bernice Imgrund.

Services will be held Tuesday evening, May 19, 2026, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., with funeral service following at 6:00 p.m. Private family burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later time.
