Betty Erickson, age 72, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, at her home in Des Moines.
Betty was born January 19, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles and Gladys (King) Piper. She was the middle child of 5. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1970. She met Leslie Erickson in 1970 and they were married on July 22, 1972 in Des Moines, IA. They welcomed daughter, Erica in 1981 and daughter, Jennifer in 1984.
She loved her cats, Holly and Piper, giraffes, and people. Above all, she loved her family and grandkids. She enjoyed feeding her family and friends. She was a kind woman with the biggest heart
Betty is survived by her brother, James Piper; daughters, Erica (Donald) Mull and Jennifer (Jake) Thompson; grandchildren, Kameron, Dayln, Keagyn, Taytum, Brooke and Haleigh; and great-grandchildren, Dax, Slayde, Naminé, Ezra, Waya, and Gus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Faye (Russell) Whitlatch; brothers, Mike (Deloris) Piper and Gary Piper; and beloved cat, Cornflake.
A private interment will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
In remembrance of Betty, memorials may be made directly to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

I'm very sorry to learn of Betty's passing. She was one of the kindest people I knew. (I know her from Mercy Court as I work at the College in the Admissions Office.) Betty and Les were both very sweet people. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. May your memories be a comfort to you all in the years ahead.
