Bob F Sarasio, Sr., 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

Bob was born December 17, 1925, to Frank and Violet Sarasio in Des Moines Iowa. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Bob enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII at the age of 17. He served on the USS Enterprise CV6 for 4 years. After returning home, he married his sweetheart, Vera Witt. They were married for 76 years. They enjoyed time with family and friends, traveling, and attending many of the CV6 reunions with fellow shipmates. Bob was honored to take a trip to Washington D.C. with an Honor Flight. Bob was employed with the City of Des Moines for 36 years - first in the Forestry Department, and later in Traffic and Transportation, where he retired as a Sign Shop Supervisor.

He is survived by his son, Bob Sarasio Jr. (Jackie); daughters, Sue Ann Jennings and Nancy Vahey (Mike); grandchildren, Peggy Minter (Marvin), Shandra Sarasio Meyer (Dan), Stacie Sarasio (Adam Thiel), Angie Gomez (Tony), Kaitlin Vahey (Mike Malchow), Danielle Vahey, and Joshua Vahey; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Madeline, Olivia, Harrison, Noah, and Josalyn.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Violet Sarasio, wife, Vera Sarasio, sister, Louise Roland, and grandsons, Jon and Adam Sarasio, and Tanner Vahey.

Bob was always willing and ready to help anyone who needed it. He loved to laugh and had a cunning sense of humor. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 3300 Easton Blvd. Des Moines. There will be a luncheon at St. Joseph’s after the service. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 4, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Special Olympics Iowa or Salvation Army in Loving Memory of Bob.
