Becca R. Powers
December 01, 1951 — September 30, 2023
Becca Ranay Powers, age 71, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Trinity Center Luther Park in Des Moines.
Becca was born December 1, 1951, in Racine, Wisconsin to Harold and Tola (Talbert) Mahoney. She lived in Paddock Lake, WI as a child. She met the love of her life, Robert Leon Richards, at 16 years old and they shared two beautiful children together – Pearce and Mary Elizabeth. She moved to Kenosha, WI where she lived for the next 16-17 years, before moving to San Diego, CA in 1989. She lived there briefly, then in Las Vegas, NV, before moving to Iowa in 1995. She lived many places in Iowa including Melbourne, Grinnell, Kellogg, Newton, and finally Des Moines.
Becca loved to play bingo. She never met a stranger – as soon as you met her, you were blessed to be instant friends. She was a genuine person, with a giving heart, and a compassionate soul. She sacrificed so much just so she could bring a smile to those around her.
Above all else, Becca cherished all of the special moments she spent with her son, Pearce. He was the light of her world and she was so very thankful for him and the memories they made together. She enjoyed volunteering at the Treasure Chest in Des Moines, a thrift shop her son owns. Becca was also very thankful for the friendships she made while living at Trinity Center.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Pearce Powers; Leona Marchese, who she loved like a daughter; her siblings, Tammy, Jamie, Dale, and Danny; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Becca was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Tola Mahoney; infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Richards; siblings, Harold, Kay, and Marilyn; and the love of her life, Robert Richards.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Avon Cemetery after the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family.

I will never forget you Aunt Judy, the love I had for you was the most rare and important to my heart. The bond and connection we had cannot be severed by god calling you home. You will remain in my heart forever and you will be talked about every chance I can get. I love you so much and as I sit here in tears. I will never forget your voice and how you would call other family members to check on me. I will never forget how you expressed your love towards me and how soft your I love you were said to me. My heart is shattered and even though youre looking down on me. Please dont ever stop.
