Betty Jane Long, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, Iowa.

Betty was born March 21, 1928, in Ames, Iowa to William and Oletha (Banks) Matters. She was a resident of Collins, Iowa for over 75 years. Betty was a longtime member of the Collins United Methodist Church. She retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of faithful service. Betty was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed stamp collecting and playing the slot machines at Prairie Meadows.

She is survived by her children, Debarah Christain, Bill Long, and Denny (Carla) Long; grandchildren, Heather (Tony) Pierskalla, Josh (Margaret Henderson) Christain, Lucas (Heather) Christain, Amanda (Tim) Mroch, Courtney (Brett) Fuller, Brittany Vander Zwagg, Brian (Jen) Jackson, and Eric (Lisa) Jackson; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Million; and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many special friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Richard Long; grandson, Braden Long; daughter-in-law, Cathy Long; and her brothers, Dick, Les, Bob, and Kenneth Matters.

Private services will be held with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated to the Prairie Vista Village Activities Fund.
