Bueford "Bud" Hayes
September 30, 1945 — April 15, 2025
Bueford “Bud” Albert Hayes, Jr. age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at his home in Pleasant Hill surrounded by his family.
Bud was born September 30, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa to Bueford Sr. and Mary Hayes. He was affectionately known by many names – Bueford, Bud, Ozzie, Oscar, Grandpa Chief, Grampy, B.A., Grandpa, and Dad – and would acknowledge every one. His family was his greatest joy and he never missed the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, supporting them in their activities. He was unwaveringly dedicated.
Bud proudly served in the United States Navy. He worked for John Deere for many years, and was primarily a welder during his career. He enjoyed playing poker and Cribbage with family. Bud was an avid Hawkeyes and Chiefs fan, and will be remembered for his world-famous peanut brittle.
He is survived by his children, Cary (Lisa) Hayes, Tammy Hayes, and Craig Hayes; grandchildren, Adam (Laura) Hayes and their daughter Emma, Aaron (Genna) Hayes and their children Ary and Elias, Austin Hayes and his daughter Addison, Ann Scheel, Palmer Hayes, Brant Hayes, and Karlee Hayes; one brother and three sisters; as well as other extended family and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Judy Ann Hayes; his mother, Mary Seals; father, Bueford Hayes, Sr.; and his siblings, Roger Hayes and Marie King.
Services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Bud will be laid to rest at Laurel Hill Cemetery after the services. Please join the family for a luncheon at Doanes Park Shelter, 4900 Doanes Park Road, Pleasant Hill, Iowa following the burial.

Craig, Tammy and the whole Hayes family I am deeply saddened by the loss of Bud, he was a great man. Always treated me with respect even back in me and Craig's teenage days pushing everyone's buttons. Everytime I saw this man there was a huge smile on his face and always greeted me with "hey Chad how are you doing? It's a sad time as he has been called home to be with Judy where he can rest in peace. Many thoughts, prayers and love to the whole family.
