Service Details

Aiom Makeir was a young woman whose life radiated kindness, generosity, and love. Her presence brought warmth and light to everyone she met, and her gentle spirit and unwavering compassion left a lasting impact on her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on December 24, 2003, in Cairo, Egypt, to Achok Aguek and Lal Makier, Aiom grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 2022. She was a track star and excelled academically. Following graduation, she pursued nursing studies at DMACC, where she was a determined and bright student throughout her life. Aiom worked at Broadlawns Hospital, where she cared deeply about her patients and was dedicated to the healthcare field.

She is survived by her daughter, Jamila Noel Kimberly Austin; her brother, Ater Gai; her sister, Tina Makuac; her mother, Achok Aguek; her father, Lal Makier; her stepfather, Makuac Bol Makuac; and her partner, Manny Austin, whom she loved very dearly. Additionally, she is survived by many cousins and friends who loved her deeply.

Aiom was not only a beloved friend and family member, but also a devoted mother to her precious daughter, Jamila. Aiom’s love for Jamila was boundless; she poured her heart into nurturing, guiding, and cherishing her daughter. Jamila was the center of Aiom’s world, and her legacy will live on through the love and joy she instilled in her. Aiom taught Jamila the importance of kindness, resilience, and compassion—qualities she embodied herself.

Aiom was known for her beautiful smile, which could brighten any room, and her heart, which was always open to others. Her generosity knew no bounds—she was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, and share her joy with everyone around her. Those close to Aiom will forever cherish her laughter, her wisdom beyond her years, and the way she brought people together with her caring nature.

As we remember Aiom, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Though her time with us was brief, her memory will live on in the hearts of all she touched. Aiom's light shines bright in heaven, and her spirit will remain a source of comfort and inspiration for Jamila and for all who knew her.

In closing, let us all remember Aiom’s laughter and the cherished memories created with her. May we hold those good times close to our hearts and continue to live our lives abundantly, just as Aiom would have wanted. Thank you for coming together to celebrate her life. Aiom was truly one of a kind, and we were all so fortunate to know and love her.
