Service Details

Carolyn “Chris” Reineke passed away Sunday July 3, 2011, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. All services will be held Friday July 8, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m., service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery.

Carolyn was born May 1, 1946, and raised in Des Moines. She graduated from East High School in 1964, and joined the US Air Force in 1967. She was a telephone operator for many years with Northwest Bell Telephone. Carolyn retired March 31, 2011, from the Internal Revenue Service after 29 years. She was a member of American Legion Baldwin-Patterson Post 274, Animals Protection Society, Delta Alpha Community Service Club, and the A.S.P.C.A.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Johanna Shannahan Reineke; father, Carroll Alvin Reineke; brothers, Fred Reineke and Norman Walker; sister, Isabelle Sexton; and longtime companion Blaine David “Jim” Meisner.

She is survived by many Shannahan and Reinecke cousins; friends; her parrots, Pancho and Joey; her dog, Morgan; and the many feral cats she fed. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, but we are all comforted by the fact that she was secure in the knowledge of a better place and that she reunited with departed family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League or Taylor House Hospice.
