Clement Warner passed away at the VA Medical Center on July 1, 2011, at the age of 91.

Clement was born on December 19, 1919, in Hammond, IN, to Charles and Lillian Warner, the oldest of three children. Clement was enlisted in the army from July of 1940 until his honorable discharge in July of 1945. He was a World War II veteran. He fought in ten different theaters and five different campaigns. He served under Generals Patton, Clark, Bradley, and others as he fought in Africa, Italy, Belgium, France, and Germany. He was awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart.

Clem married the love of his life, Audrey Dodson, in 1946, and raised a family of six children. He worked for 40 years at Iowa Power and Light, retiring in 1985. He and Audrey celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year in March. They are members of the American Legion, Baldwin Patterson Post #274. He was always very active and lived to travel, golf, fish, camp, bowl and sing and dance. He always loved to laugh and have a good time with family and friends. He would say, “If I couldn’t have laughed, I wouldn’t have made it.”

Clem is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Dick and Donna Warner of Rhode Island, Alan Warner of Des Moines, Janet and John Greer of Nebraska, Gene and Diane Warner of Wisconsin, Debbie and Keith Merryman of Missouri and Jeri and David Tillman of Georgia; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by all his many friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday July 7, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with a visitation one hour prior. Inurnment will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
