Heather Ray Hartline Funaro, 42, passed away June 28, 2011, at Taylor House Hospice, with the light of her life, her daughter Ava, asleep at her side.
Heather was born July 7, 1968, in Des Moines. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and received both her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Iowa. Heather worked for the State of Iowa in the Vocational Rehabilitation Services Dept. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Heather is survived by her husband, Greg Funaro; daughter, Ava Funaro; parents, Don and Lois Hartline; brothers, Nile (Chris) Hartline and Ross Hartline; many nieces and a nephew; and a host of other extended relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or by donating a children’s book to the Des Moines Public Library or your neighborhood school.
Heather’s wishes are that we share time reading and being “artful” with our children.

I didn't know heather but I know her daughter. Ava is a nice girl and I'm sure her mother was too.

i know Ava too. she is the nicest girl i have ever known. i feel so sad about her mother.she is in the same class as me and have a lot of friends

i know her daughter Ava too. Her mom would be so proud of her!!! She's amazing !! I am so happy Ava came into my life!!

I know her daughter she's awesome so I think that's the best legacy anyone could have. We even go to the same school, we're both in the same class, she's one of my best friends.

Lois, Don and family,
I was saddened to read about Heather's passing. Lois, I called Mom (Ruth Warren Steintjes) right away so she could add your family to her prayers. She extends her sympathy.
As you celebrate Heather's life and mourn her passing, I pray for your family to rest in the Lord and allow him to give you comfort, peace and strength in the upcoming days.

Heartines and Greg, I was devistated to see that Heather had passed a way. she was my matron of honor in my wedding. I was also in her wedding. I worked with Heather at and she was a delight. We were friends and she helped me find my first apartment on Polk BLVD. I can only pray for all of you in your times of sorrow. Your are in my thoughts.

I had the opportunity to work with Heather for almost 9 years at DDS (1998-2007). Her quick wit & humour always kept me entertained. My favorite memory of Heather is when she performed an impromptu Brittany Spears dance in my office. I nearly fell on the floor laughing! Her spirit & smile will be greatly missed. Blessings to the entire Funaro & Hartline families on your loss.

I have worked with Heather for the past couple of years and she helped train me in my position. One memory that stands out for me is when she gave me some hand-me-down pumping supplies for nursing my baby. She even called the company to make sure the supplies were still good as it had been so long since she had used them with Ava! I can't believe what a fighter she was through this aweful battle with cancer. I will always remember her sense of humor and strong command of our her job. God bless, Heather.
