Katherine Elizabeth Moeckly, 76, of Ankeny, IA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 25, 2011. She was born November 4, 1934, in Des Moines, IA, to Irving and Elizabeth Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Leroy Moeckly, daughter Carla Kay Moeckly, and daughter-in-law Becky Moeckly.
Kay is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Loretta Moeckly and their two children, Brenda and Janelle (Steadman) and son-in-law Nathan Steadman; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Joyce Moeckly and their four children, Maria, Mandy, Joanna, and Jackie; and daughter and son-in-law, Jim and Anne Poisel and their four children, Lauren, Naomi, Ethan, and Jared.
Kay fought a courageous battle with cancer, enjoying her family and life to the fullest. Her family extends thanks to Dr. Shreck and the oncology department at IA Methodist Hospital for their compassionate and excellent care. Kay will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Ankeny Free Church, 118 NW Linden Street in Ankeny. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, followed by a luncheon, then burial at Fjeldberg Cemetery in Huxley, Iowa.
Memorial gifts will be directed to Ankeny Free Church Missions and John Stoddard Cancer Center.

I recently had a wonderful conversation with Kay. I happened to go into the doctor's office last Friday afternoon. I hurried in and saw Kay in the waiting room, so I got to chat with her for about 25 minutes. She laughed at me because I looked like I was in such a hurry. She was waiting for a hospital room to open up and a wheelchair transporter would come to take her over the hospital. She was in her usual positive mood. She said she should have come in sooner, but she was helping with a baby shower and was so disappointed that she was going to miss it. She had everything all ready but really was hating not getting to see that baby! She updated me on her lungs, how amazing it was that both lungs were clear and wasn't it amazing that 18 years after her transplant and 5 or 6 chemos, she was still around. She said that God had been very, very good to her and that she felt very blessed. She told me about the wonderful time she had in London visiting with her granddaughter and her college friend. She just seemed in really good spirits as usual. Kay was really something special, so kind. It was very hard then to hear of her passing. She was a very good friend and so proud of her family. May you carry your memories of her in your hearts forever. She was just an amazaing person.

I would like to extend heartfelt sympathy to all the members of
Kay's family. I am a former neighbor and friend of Kay's and
someone who admired Kay very much. May you gain a small measure
of comfort in the happy memories you have of Kay and may God
soon heal your hearts. Kay was a wonderful lady.
