Willadene “Willie” Blackman, 76, died Sunday morning June 26, 2011, at her home.
Willie was born May 4, 1935, in Monroe County, Iowa to Forrest and Charlotte Davis. She graduated from Lovilla High School and later moved to Des Moines. On August 14, 1955, she married Glenn Blackman. Willie was a homemaker, raising the children while Glenn worked in the trucking industry. The family lived on the Eastside of Des Moines, later moving to the Southside. Willie served as a Deaconess with the Living Church of God. She enjoyed gardening, fishing with her family, cooking, playing cards, especially Canasta and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she cherished.
Willie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Glenn; children, Debbie Crabtree, Donna Lemley and Randy Blackman of Des Moines; Deana Garrett of Peru, Dixie Olsen of Indianola and Bobbi Barnholdt of Anita; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also her brother Robert Davis of Des Moines & sister Roselea Hanson of Hastings Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Wylie and Orman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with visitation two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Glenn,
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Willadene. We still remember the picnic occasions after services on the Sabbath with the whole congregation in your back yard. That was quite some time ago when both of you were a bit younger. Willadene was a wonderful example of quiet service.
It is at times such as this that what we believe and the lives we live based on those beliefs is so important. There is a kingdom coming and there is a resurrection from the dead. May God speed that day and that joyous reunion that will take place at that time.

Randy,
It has been a long time since we've crossed paths, but I want you to know that you are not forgotten in this time of grief. Your mother was a wonderful woman and a woman of faith. I remember losing my mother and can appreciate what you are experiencing at this time. Paul describes the resurrection as our hope and truly it is. Time is short and the day when you will be reunited is coming quickly. May God speed that day!

What a shock to read of your loss. Our hearts go out to you and know your
lives will feel like a chair is empty ...the space she filled in your lives.
She was a beautiful example and was glad I got to work with her at the Feasts years ago in Information. She was a a faithful servant indeed.

She was a very wonderful person. She always had a smile no matter how she felt. Sshe served God and the brethren for many years. Everyone will miss her very much. I wish I could be there at the funeral, but due to health issues will not be able to attend.

We are saddened briefly, for we will all miss Wilie, for now. But we look forward to ALL the saints rising to meet Christ in the air, on his second coming to this earth, this time as it's King to set things as he and the Father intended from the foundation of the world. Then we will she her cheerful smile and as time permits, she will allow us to win at Canasta just a little more often.
May you be comforted at every thought of her life and of the time you will see her again.
