Willadene “Willie” Blackman, 76, died Sunday morning June 26, 2011, at her home.

Willie was born May 4, 1935, in Monroe County, Iowa to Forrest and Charlotte Davis. She graduated from Lovilla High School and later moved to Des Moines. On August 14, 1955, she married Glenn Blackman. Willie was a homemaker, raising the children while Glenn worked in the trucking industry. The family lived on the Eastside of Des Moines, later moving to the Southside. Willie served as a Deaconess with the Living Church of God. She enjoyed gardening, fishing with her family, cooking, playing cards, especially Canasta and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she cherished.

Willie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Glenn; children, Debbie Crabtree, Donna Lemley and Randy Blackman of Des Moines; Deana Garrett of Peru, Dixie Olsen of Indianola and Bobbi Barnholdt of Anita; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also her brother Robert Davis of Des Moines & sister Roselea Hanson of Hastings Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Wylie and Orman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with visitation two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.
