Service Details

Lorraine “Lorrie” Shetterly passed gracefully from this life on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, surrounded by her family. Lorrie was born to Lester & Hattie Maxwell, and was raised on a farm south of Hartford, Iowa. Lorrie worked at Banker’s Life until she met and married the love of her life, Bob Shetterly. Bob & Lorrie were married on January 25, 1974. Together they raised five daughters. Throughout their married life, they moved several times, but made a home for their family no matter where they were!

Lorrie was a lifelong member of the Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford, and served as the church organist there for 35 years. Music was a big part of Lorrie’s life as she also played the piano and autoharp. She passed on this love of music not only to her family, but to the many students to whom she taught lessons. Lorrie was a homemaker until their youngest daughter started school. She then worked as a teacher’s aide at the Hartford Middle School so she could be home with the girls during the summers. Lorrie found another way to serve others when she became a sign language interpreter. She provided interpretation services to two students in the public school system over the course of seven years. Lorrie then returned to work at Principal Financial Group until 2004.

Lorrie was exceedingly proud of her family. She enjoyed being outdoors, visiting and keeping up with friends’ news, Sunday brunches, family gatherings, her “Principal gals” and everyone knew there was always room for one more at the table! She was a dedicated friend to many. She always had a smile, a kind word, a gentle touch, and could always make you laugh. She had such a loving heart!

Those who will cherish their memories of Lorrie include her husband, Bob; 5 daughters: Robyn (Brad) Witte of Hartford, Rebecca (Jason) Campbell of Norwalk, Loreesa (Clint) Curry of Hartford, Erika (Shane) Laird of Des Moines, and Jolene (Jeremy) Wuebker of Woodward; 9 grandchildren; Jayde, Savanna, Kaleigh, Cade, Shelbie, Seth, Sydnee, Rylee & Colin, and many many friends and relatives who loved her and will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at 5:30 p.m., at the Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford. Family will greet friends and relatives prior to the service from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions made in Lorrie’s name will be designated by the family.
