William Darnall

William E. Darnall, 67, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at his home in Mesa, AZ, after an eight-year battle with ALS. He was born April 25, 1944, in Des Moines.

William served in the Marines, and retired from Baker Group in 2001 after 14 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Evergreen Church of Christ, and enjoyed NASCAR, his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and working on old cars.

William is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy; children, Joe, Nanci, Sean, Donna, Karen, Kathy, Douglas, Randy, and Tom; thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Wittenstein of West Des Moines; uncle, Robert Darnall; aunt, Jean Howard; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Ward; son, Billy Jr.; and grandfather, Robert Darnall.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Hospice of the donor’s choice.
