Agnes McDowell

Agnes I. McDowell, 87, passed away on June 21, 2011 at Taylor House Hospice. She was born July 5, 1923 in Messena, Iowa.

After graduating from Thayer High School in 1940, she moved to Des Moines and lived there the remainder of her life. She retired from Iowa Farm Bureau after 25 years of service. Aggie enjoyed going to hear country music bands and watching college basketball. She also enjoyed all the friends she met over the many years of following the bands.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Prentice Bass and James McDowell; her parents; two brothers; and a sister. Agnes is survived by her sister, Roberta Justice; step-sons, Gary McDowell and Terry McDowell; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with funeral services following at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lorimor Cemetery in Lorimor, Iowa.
