Service Details
Andrew Robert Hickman, 23, passed away at his home on June 8, 2011. Services will be on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope on Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. Family will greet friends after the service. Burial will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Andrew was born on February 10, 1988 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He grew up in Estherville, Iowa and graduated from Estherville Lincoln Central High School and then attended Iowa Central Community College. Andrew was employed at the Ankeny Diner in Ankeny where he was a chef; he loved to cook for others. He also enjoyed Frisbee golf and playing his guitar in jam sessions with his brother, Aaron, and friends. Andrew also loved animals, most of all his own cats.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Ron and Lesly Hickman of Ankeny; sister, Kelty (Brian) Rome of Forest Lake, MN; brothers, Aaron Hickman of Ankeny and Grant (Christy) Hickman of West Des Moines; nephews, Everett and Dominic Hickman and Cael and Devin Rome; grandparents, Kathy and Les Kehn of Savage, MN; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

We are saddened to hear of Andrew's passing. As you know, we enjoyed him as a guest of Matt's in our home on many occassions during his school years. We have good memories of his outgoing personality, wit and charm.

It was with deep sorrow that I learned of Andrew's passing. He brought love and laughter to the lives of those who know him. I can still see him bounding into the high school office with his huge grin. That grin was welcomed by us all. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Andrew will be greatly missed. He was my neighbor and he was always willing to lend a helpful hand. He was a very sweet and polite young man, I am so glad I got to meet him and share some laughs. I always enjoyed hearing the music that Andrew and his friends played. The world lost a great soul, but his memory will always remain.

My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. Each time we would run into each other we did not hesitate to hug and I would soak in his big hug. Last night I reminded Mark the time Andrew was over with our small group and he tried so hard to teach me how to skateboard. Mark kept saying Andrew I don't think it will work and Andrew was so persistent that he would be able to teach me. Finally, he smiled and said I think they are right you aren't very coordinated! Andrew was such a great kid, and his smile lit up the room! He was always good to his friends and he looked out for them, Johnny and Jill will never forget him. I am so saddened to hear about Andrew. He was loved by so many people! I know my sisters and I all had so much fun working with him at the DQ! He made everything so much fun! I wish I would have kept in touch with him better than I had but I was so happy when a couple years ago he walked into where I work and had a great chat and I am glad we got to catch up. I am going to miss his bubbly personality! Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
