Gerald L. Brown

Gerald “Jerry” L. Brown, age 79, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at his home in Bondurant.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with burial to follow in the Bondurant Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the Altoona Funeral Home.

Born April 1, 1932, in Boone, Iowa, Gerald was the son of John and Faye (Chase) Brown. The family moved to Farrar, Iowa, in 1940, where Jerry graduated high school in 1950. He then went to work for Wright Tree Service and construction at the Bondurant farmer’s elevator. Jerry then started at Armstrong Tire before being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1952-1953. After returning from the war, Jerry continued at Armstrong Tire for 37 years and farming where the family lived.

Jerry enjoyed traveling, gardening, and playing blackjack at the casino. Most of all he loved spending time with Jeri and his family.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jeri; daughters, Kyle (Mike Booth) Carney, and Kristyn (Jey) Osburn; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosemary Herman.He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Jill and Leslianne; and a brother, Robert.
