Jesus reached out His hand and she accepted. Barbara Louise Taylor, 64, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after a two and a half year courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines. Barb was born on January 29, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Bill and Louise Scott. Her family moved to Clinton, IA where she grew up and attended high school. Her husband Tom of 42 years also attended Clinton High School where they were best friends, getting married several years later. They moved to Wyoming, IA where their two children were born. In 1975 they moved to Perry, IA for 28 years and then to Des Moines in 2002 after Tom retired from teaching.

Barb touched many lives. Her family along with her strength and deep faith were the essence of her life. Her grandchildren, Sydney, Calvin, Adaline and Will put the spring in her step and a song in her heart. Her twinkling eyes were the smile of her soul – a gift she gave freely to anyone fortunate enough to know her.

Barb was preceded in death by her father, Bill Scott of Clinton, IA; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Calvin and Arlene Taylor also of Clinton, IA.

Survivors include her husband Tom; her children, Scott (Katie) Taylor of Cedar Rapids, IA and Jennifer (Doug) Freking of Cumming IA; mother, Louise Scott of Woodinville, WA; sister, Sandy (Randy) Coggeshall of Woodinville, WA; brother, Gary Scott of Marion, IA; her four grandchildren, Sydney, Calvin, Adaline and Will; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Special thanks to Barb and Tom’s church small group for their unconditional love and support. The family would also like to thank Barb’s Oncologist, Dr. Steven Heddinger, Amy Bell and the entire staff at John Stoddard Cancer Centers, Radiology and Chemotherapy departments for their compassionate care.

God promises a safe landing – not a calm journey.
