Laura Brady, 71, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Hospice Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born in Des Moines on November 5, 1939 to Dorothy and Charles Meacham. She was the Office Manager at the Clinic of General Medicine, a member of Rising Sun Church of Christ where she was an active worker with the Bus Ministry during the 1970’s. Laura was a Master Gardener.
She is survived by her husband Dennis; her son Jeff; sister, Beverly (George) Patterson, Mary Ann Dannen, Frances (Robert) Miller; her brother, Michael Meacham; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rising Sun Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill with visitation Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Rising Sun Cemetery.
Memorial contribution may be made to Church.

So sorry to learn of Laurie's passing. She is the first to pass (that I know of) from our classes at Rising Sun School and it surely does make me feel a part of God's Human Race. Condolences to the rest of the family.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked closely with Laura when she and Dr Greenberg moved to IHP. Laura and I always had stories to tell of our gardens (Hostas) and who had the most deer problems. She was a great women and very respected. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We are so sorry for your loss. Our own feelings of loss are still raw with Dan's mom's passing so we know how you are feeling. As Christians you know where she is and you will see her again someday but the pain of her being gone still hurts. She was a wonderful person here on earth and is now magnificent in Heaven. We are praying for your family during this time and wish we could make it to the services but unfortunately we have obligations we cannot get out of. We are there with you in spirit.

DEVASTATED BY DEATH

The seven-year-old son of our neighbors died last week. They are devastated. So are we. What can we tell them?
- QUESTION #148 -
In my med-school class we discussed the place of prayer in the hospital. As you can imagine, we heard strong opinions on both sides. What are your thoughts? What is the purpose of healing prayer?
- ANSWER FROM MAX -
God is a good God. We must begin here. Though we dont understand his actions, we can trust his heart.
God does only what is good. But how can death be good? Some mourners dont ask this question. When the quantity of years has outstripped the quality of years, we dont ask how death can be good.
But the father of the dead teenager does. The widow of the young soldier does. The parents of a seven-year-old do. How could death be good?
Part of the answer may be found in Isaiah 57:12: Good people are taken away, but no one understands. Those who do right are being taken away from evil and are given peace. Those who live as God wants find rest in death (NCV).
Death is Gods way of taking people away from evil. From what kind of evil? An extended disease? An addiction? A dark season of rebellion? We dont know. But we know that no person lives one day more or less than God intends. All the days planned for me were written in your book before I was one day old (Ps. 139:16 NCV).
But her days here were so few . . .
His life was so brief . . .
To us it seems that way. We speak of a short life, but compared to eternity, who has a long one? A persons days on earth may appear as a drop in the ocean. Yours and mine may seem like a thimbleful. But compared to the Pacific of eternity, even the years of Methuselah filled no more than a glass. James was not speaking just to the young when he said, Your life is like a mist. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away
(James 4:14 NCV).
In Gods plan every life is long enough and every death is timely. And though you and I might wish for a longer life, God knows better.
Andthis is importantthough you and I may wish a longer life for our loved ones, they dont. Ironically, the first to accept Gods decision of death is the one who dies.
While we are shaking heads in disbelief, they are lifting hands in worship. While we are mourning at a grave, they are marveling at heaven. While we are questioning God, they are praising God.

Dear Dennis, Jeff, and family,
So very sorry. Laurie was a very special person.
I feel blessed to have had Laurie in my life for almost 30 years. Racquet Ball, Biking, Walking, Lunches and Birthdays,.....all fond friendship memories. Good bye sweet friend. I miss your strong,quiet,loving ways. I will carry you in my heart.
I will be at Laurie's services in spirit, as I am in Florida babysitting my 2 grandchildren.
