Carol Smith

Carol A. Smith, 90, passed away June 1, 2011 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A family celebration of life will be held later this summer.

Carol was born February 11, 1921 in Boyden, Iowa to Emma and Jacob Kleinhesselink. She lived in Oskaloosa until the death of her beloved husband, George, and in 1984 made her home on Horseshoe Lake in Merrifield, Minnesota. In 2007, Carol moved to Des Moines to be closer to family.

She loved painting, gardening and the beauty and magic of the lake. As a nature lover, she advocated for the preservation of natural habitats and the environment. She was known for her progressive views, sharp wit, and keen understanding.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Tim) Mease of Clive; son Dr. Russell Mott, of Silver Springs, MD; granddaughter Lauren Mease of Clive and grandson Leon Mott of Minneapolis.
