Jacke Lee Farrell, 81, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. He was born August 27, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Walter and Margaret (Dourman) Farrell.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After his honorable discharge in 1953 he moved to Des Moines, IA. Jacke spent 25 years working as an optician. As a retiree, Jacke worked in grounds maintenance at Pioneer Hi-Bred in Johnston. Jacke, was always a practical joker, he often challenged his friends and family to a game of cribbage or a wager on the next University of Wisconsin sporting event. Jacke enjoyed friendships at the local pubs, gardening and baking. Mostly, Jacke enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Jacke is survived by his children, Jack (Paula) Farrell of Saylor Township, Sally Farrell (Steve Campbell) of Monument, CO, Sharon (Don) Ellis of Prole, James (Vanessa) Farrell of Polk City, and Mike Farrell of Ankeny; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara and granddaughter, Amy Farrell.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2011, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the funeral home.
