Van Nguyen, 49, was born April 23, 1962 in Saigon, Viet Nam and passed away on Tuesday May, 31, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Van enjoyed gardening, cooking, and music.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie Phung; son, Thomas Phung; father, Sang Nguyen; her brothers, Viet Quoc Nguyen and Viet Truc Nguyen, Viet Hoang Nguyen, Viet Lac Nguyen, Viet Hong Nguyen, Viet Tuan Nguyen and sister, Phi Van Nguyen.
Van was preceded in death by her mother, Hue Kim Le.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home 605 Lyon Street followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetery, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Van.

Thomas and Eddie, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I did not know your wife/mother, Van, and I do not know you two, I feel very close to you through my relationship with Ms. Kim Le (I believe she was Van's second cousin).
I pray God will provide all of your family with comfort and peace during this time of grief. If there is anyting I may do for you or your family, please do not hesitate to ask.

Van was a very nice co-worker. She worked very hard at Citigroup and was always willing to take on different tasks when the work was low in our area. I will miss her always-pleasant demeanor. Very sorry that she had to be taken so soon. My condolences to her family.

Eddie and Thomas,
We are so glad we were able to know Van for these last few months. We have had such a wonderful time with Thomas in AWANA. We are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers constantly. We are glad she is safe and well now with the Father but it breaks our hearts for you to be without her here.

Eddie and Thomas,
I am so saddened by the death of Van. All of us at Maple Grove Elemetary are here to support you and Thomas. Thomas means so much to us and we will do anything to help. Thinking of you both each and every day!
