George David Lee McGregor, 46, passed away May 24, 2011 at his residence. Burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 2 p.m.

George was born on February 8, 1965 in Des Moines, Iowa to Kenneth N. McGregor, Sr. and Marjorie K. McGregor. George served in the United States Navy from 1983 until his honorable discharge in May, 1989. He was always proud of his accomplishment as a Mess Management Specialist Third Class on the USS Tarawa and always boasted about walking on all seven continents of the world. He had many decorations, medals, badges and ribbons during his tenure. He was on the USS Tarawa when it made its first successful mission across the Suez Canal for their Westpac mission.

He attended Iowa Culinary Institute and DMACC Urban for the Restaurant Management program. Cooking and catering to all that would engage him was what he loved to do. The one dish he was most passionate about was his award winning lasagna. His second greatest love in life was his passion for strategizing his next chess move.

He is survived by his father, Kenneth McGregor, Sr.; brothers, Kenneth, Jr. (Tonya), Everett, Sr. (Jackie), Kevin (Katrina), Robert, Sr., Terry, Sr. (Kim), and Jermaine; sisters, Anna (Harvey, Sr.) Ricks, Marjorie (Frank) Watson, and Lillie (Antonio) Ward. He had too many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great- nieces to name, but he loved each and every one of them.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Marjorie “Kathryn” McGregor and eldest brother, James F. Ewing, Jr.

“George, you were everything to all of us and the life of the party is now gone. We will miss you. Bro!”
