George David Lee McGregor, 46, passed away May 24, 2011 at his residence. Burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 2 p.m.
George was born on February 8, 1965 in Des Moines, Iowa to Kenneth N. McGregor, Sr. and Marjorie K. McGregor. George served in the United States Navy from 1983 until his honorable discharge in May, 1989. He was always proud of his accomplishment as a Mess Management Specialist Third Class on the USS Tarawa and always boasted about walking on all seven continents of the world. He had many decorations, medals, badges and ribbons during his tenure. He was on the USS Tarawa when it made its first successful mission across the Suez Canal for their Westpac mission.
He attended Iowa Culinary Institute and DMACC Urban for the Restaurant Management program. Cooking and catering to all that would engage him was what he loved to do. The one dish he was most passionate about was his award winning lasagna. His second greatest love in life was his passion for strategizing his next chess move.
He is survived by his father, Kenneth McGregor, Sr.; brothers, Kenneth, Jr. (Tonya), Everett, Sr. (Jackie), Kevin (Katrina), Robert, Sr., Terry, Sr. (Kim), and Jermaine; sisters, Anna (Harvey, Sr.) Ricks, Marjorie (Frank) Watson, and Lillie (Antonio) Ward. He had too many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great- nieces to name, but he loved each and every one of them.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Marjorie “Kathryn” McGregor and eldest brother, James F. Ewing, Jr.
“George, you were everything to all of us and the life of the party is now gone. We will miss you. Bro!”

I just couldn't believe the news when I got it but I see it is true. I never got to tell you that I appreciated all you did for me when we worked at Meyer Hall cooking for the kids and how you always corrected me when I was in the process of messing up big time. Thank you, dude! I will miss you...

Well little brother I am going to miss you and I never got to thank you for the way that you took me under your wing after mom passed away but because of you I was able to get better with my mental illness issues. Although I was six years your senior you was my big brother. You was my rock and I am going to miss you everyday for the rest of my life. I LOVE YOU GDM!!!

George David Lee McGregor was our brother who vanished through the night on May 24, 2011.We once thought, that is Davie but now we know that was him. He is Gone! He was the Son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and etc... Giving his heart with sincerity as we laugh on with his once voice that perished from this life.
Help us our Lord and Savior Jesus to understand ourselves and then others in walking with you Lord! We are learning through examples of what it takes to be (Saved) for you have shown us this day by day! Having being confirmed has shown us that trials and tribulation are created and in life you set our pace!
These moments help in knowing why we must continue to hold our heads up even stronger! We have a wonderful friend Jesus who has been there through thick and thin (Hold our hands Lord). It is evident that everyone goes through sorrow, pain, happiness and grief which are our growing points as we strive in life. We know there is a reason for going through this with our brother Davie so we will continue to give our Lord praise! Our Dad, Brothers, and Sister, we are all different and that is what makes us unique so help this family continually with strength, with honor to the Man Above! Thank You Jesus!
Yes Brothers and Sisters we can understand how losing a friend like our Mother and 2 Brothers makes things seem difficult. To be completely honest I thought we lost the only friend in the world when Mom past but we understand that our Lord gives us others to lean on for comfort in times of disbelief! I can remember Mom singing a song Lean on Me: (Sometimes in our lives) (we all have pain) (we all have sorrow) (but if we are wise) (we have tomorrow) (Lean on me when youre not strong..).
She also had shown us to give our flowers while we are living and in return our flowers will come back! I have to give credit to the Lord for understanding through Mom , Dad and this is what we can learn! Love is passed down through individuals and rubs off through people like our brother and the ones that were apart of his life! If I love Dad and Mom then it should make it easier to love Kenneth Sr., (Marjorie Kathryn), Jermaine, Margie, Terry, Lillie, Robbie, Kevin, Davie, Everett, Annie, Kenny Jr. and James!
We Loved Davie and continue to keep us in your thought and prayers because we loved Mom and James too! We give each and everyone flowers while they are living because once gone it is too late!
Pray for our family as we pray for you during the loss of this son and brother George David Lee McGregor.

Davie thank you for all of the many great memories and wonderful times that we had together, THANKS for being there for dad up to the time that you left us, for over 4 years after mom went home to be with the Lord. I will never forget all of the love that you showed to me and how you made me feel so special, taking time out to always walk me down the stairs, making sure that I got out to my vehicle safe, always having encouraging words for me. Well big bro I am going to miss you. I will never forget your big hearty voice. You sounded more ferocious than a bear but you wouldn't harm a fly. I will cherish all the times we talked and reminisced after the passing of our beautiful mother.
