Rebecca Sue (James) Anderson, 72, passed away May 23, 2011, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehab Center, Ankeny, Iowa.
Rebecca was born April 4, 1939, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Kenneth and Genevieve (Williams) James. She grew up in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1957. Rebecca graduated from Clarinda Junior College and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado. Rebecca taught in elementary schools in Stanton, Montezuma, and Clear Lake, Iowa; St. Paul, Minnesota; and Des Moines, Iowa, at Nash, King, Perkins and Garton Elementary Schools. Rebecca retired after teaching for thirty-eight years.
Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Doggett; grandchildren, Devin and Deidra Doggett; two sisters, Harriet (Bill) Young of Waukesha, WI, and Janet (Jerry) Bryan of Bigfork, MN; and one brother, Bill (Claudia) James of Alhambra, CA; eight nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of thirty-eight years, Robert Lee Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Windsor United Methodist Church, 63rd and University, Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to HCI Care Services, formerly Hospice of Central Iowa, at 2910 Westown Parkway, Suite 200, West Des Moines, IA 50266.

Grandma, its been 5 years and there isn't one day that I don't miss you. You left us all so early, but at least now we all know you are no longer in pain. Thank you fro making me the man I am today Grandma, I love you and always will.

Jennifer and family, Our deepest sympathies for your loss. Becky was kind to me as a child growing up, and as a young adult. As others have said she was very giving. She was one of the best cookie and candy bakers ever. I used to so look forward to what she worked so hard to bake every Christmas. Our thoughts are with you.

I was so sorry to hear of Becky's passing. I remember her as a wonderful teacher and mother and grandmother and friend. She was a very private person, but did extra kindness's for her students she taught. She would have a box of clothes, hats , mittens, and socks. I will never forget her telling about a little boy she taught and he needed socks, so she gave him a pair. He wore them and never took them off. She told him he should have his mother wash them. He said, oh no, because then his brother would take them. I remember her beautiful daughter,Jennifer and Devin and Dedria, and how she loved them so much. And how proud of them she was. I used to cut her hair and I'd tgry to blackmail her into coming to the class reunions in Clarinda by telling her I'd tell everyone she dyed her hair, but I would be lying. She never had only maybe three gray hairs. It didn't work, she wouldn't go. I liked her very much and respected her and her family. I know Rebecca has had such a struggle with health problems across the years and I'm sure, for her, this is peace at last. I knew her as shy, quiet, reserved, but strong and determined. And I loved it when she would break out in a laugh. I know you will miss your sister, mother, grandmother -- hold on to the good memories.

We had many great times together through our church youth groups and in school. Rebecca was always there with a joke to keep us going or a challenging word of encouragement. May God's strength help you preserve the many wonderful memories of a great life.

I hadn't seen Rebecca since high school, but was sorry to hear of her death. We played together as children and I would visit her alot when she was in bed with, I can't remember what, but missed coming to school for a year. My sympathy is with you.

Rebecca was a wonderful person...very kind and generous with a great sense of humor. She will definitely be missed by all who knew and loved her. My deepest sympathies to her family.
