Virginia Rose, 100, almost 101, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born November 18, 1910, the daughter of Charles and Amanda Hause in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Virginia was married to Harold Rose on February 4, 1930, in St. Joseph, MO where they resided until moving to Kansas City in 1948. She worked as a customer service representative in the gas service industry. After retirement, she taught literacy at a community college.

Virginia enjoyed fishing, painting, gardening, ceramics, and golf, once getting a hole-in-one. She loved nature, birds and all animals. Virginia was a part of the Ding-a-lings. She truly enjoyed her volunteer work, reading to the blind.

Virginia is survived by her sons, Stephen (Barbara) Rose, James Rose; grandchildren, Jason Rose, Justin (Leta) Rose, Brian (Angela), Sean (Soman), Julie (Dale) and Dana (Jonathan); nine great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Harold in 1960.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2011, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 701 N 94th Street, Kansas City, KS.

Memorial contributions may be given to the DAV in loving memory of Virginia.
