Service Details
Tom Wisnousky, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 16, 2011. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Family will greet friends on Thursday, May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the funeral will be on Friday, May 20, at 2:00 p.m.
Tom was born on January 3, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, IA, and graduated from Jefferson High School there. He obtained his BA at Coe College in Cedar Rapids and his MBA from Florida State.
On Thanksgiving Day in 1961, he married the love of his life, Carol. They would have been married 50 years in November. Tom served in the USAF from 1963-1975. He retired from the Housing and Urban Development in 2004. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed playing soccer, sail boat racing, biking, corvettes, and his grandkids' activities. Tom belonged to the Tall Dog Bike Club, and Corvette Club of Iowa, and enjoyed the many friends he met through those activities.
Survivors include his wife and soul mate, Carol Wisnousky; son, Ted and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Kayla and Jake; and brothers, Edwin, Joe (Donna) and Jerry (Jan). Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Leona Wisnousky, and son Daniel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family, to be used for a memorial bench on one of Tom’s favorite bike trails.

Dear Carol,
My deepest sympathies. I am profoundly saddened to learn of Toms passing. I remember well meeting him at Squadron Officers School and how his leadership and warm humor helped our group flourish. It seemed like we formed an instant kinship. I shall remember him always.

Carol, So sorry about about Tom's Passing. He could turn a bad cycling day into one with
a lot of humor. He was proud to be a member of The Super Sabre (F100) Socity. They will sure miss him.

Arda called me Wednesday to let me know about Tom. I was so saddened by the news. Losing your spouse is such a huge loss. Please call me if you just need someone to visit with. Keep your family and friends close around you for support and love,that and faith in God will help ease the pain and sorrow.

I am saddened by your loss. Tom was always fun to chat with on a bike ride and at gatherings of the Tall Dog Bike Club. I followed the progress when he rode cross country with the Tall Dog contingent a few years back. What an accomplished guy he was!
He was always friendly to me and loved to talk about his family. I am sure he will be sorely missed by all. My deepest condolences to all the family!

This notice came as a profound shock and surprise.
Tommy and I grew up and went through most of our school years together, unfortunately I moved away not long after our graduation from high school and have only been back to visit so I only have the wonderful memories of child and young adult hood and snippets of contact since that time.
This unexpected loss of a wonderful person/husband/father/friend is horrible to consider going forward without him.
My most sincere condolences go out to his wife and children and their extended families and Tommy's brothers and their families.
I wish all who loved him peace and my prayers are with you during this time.

Carol, my name is Amysue and I'm a member of the Tall Dogs. I had the privilege to ride with Tom a few times and wanted to thank you for sharing him with our biking family. I'm so very sorry that you and your family are experiencing this. When a loved one is taken from us no words can fill that hole, but I hope in time the sadness you are feeling will ease. Please know that Tom will be missed by our biking family and you are in our hearts.

It was an honor to know and ride bicycles Tom and I was in awe of his cross country cycling trip he made with others from our Bike Club. Of course, his passing brings back many memories of Dan, as well, and all of the great times we had the chances to spend together. He and Dan were in my thoughts during the Ride of Silence last evening. I'll miss the times we had, but am sure the memories will be revisited during the many future bike rides with our Club's Membership. Again, it was an honor to have known Tom and we'll miss his fellowship out cycling on the roadways together.
